I don't often talk about controversial issues such as racism, but this story has been all over the media and has caused a few arguments between me and some peers. Well, let's talk about it "racism" does it still exist today? Of course it does, and I have mixed feelings about what Donald Sterling said, but let's talk truth.
We all know that ' ex girlfriend was about his money and set him up on tape to get a statement from him. But she did know he was a racist and was about to get kicked to the curb so I believe she took out her stash of evidence to stay relevant and get $. A smart scheme that exposes the truth.
We all know that Donald Sterling has proved on tape that he does not like black people.
We all know that every culture has a set of people who are shameful.
We all know that we are allowed to speak our mind in the US "Freedom of Speech."
Donald Sterling did make comments that are fair. He mentioned that he is in a culture and he lives within that culture. But where he goes left is when he mentions Magic Johnson. Magic Johnson is a high-profile African-American and his name was brought up. I would be upset if I were Magic because Sterling took the whole conversation in a direction of hate, jealousy, and racism against his own culture of people he mentors. For that Sterling disgusts me even more.
Sterling should have said, " I don't have a problem with successful, intelligent Black people, but if you are going to go around taking pictures with scumbag low life Black people who are going to hurt your reputation, then I have a problem with that." Unfortunately, that is not the way it went down and there is over 100 hours of tape we still haven't heard. Sterling did also say he loves black people, do we believe that- Hell NO! We know how to read between the lines. Sterling was busted for saying that he didn't want his girl to hang around and bring Black people to his games. But he coaches a team full of Black people that made him rich. It's ironic, but real.
Courtesy of World StarHipHop.com listen to what LIL WAYNE is saying. I agree with him on what to do if I were a Clippers player-this speaks bigger volumes more than anything any celebrity has said thus far.
Hol up! Did we forget how long Wiz has been around? Wiz has been around since he was 16 in 2005/2006 but we know him best when he released the track Black and Yellow in 2011 off his album Rolling Papers . If you are like me the first thing you noticed is that he reminds you of Snoop Dogg. He has a different accent and talk than Snoop but he is slender like Snoop and promotes the use of recreational Marijuana. This dude branded his own rolling papers and other cannibus paraphernalia. He is not from Cali like most thought even though he lives there now. He is from Philadelphia like his gorgeous wife Amber Rose.
Don’t hate on Iggy Azalea, she’s doing her thing. Some are saying that she's a gimmick, what do you think? Haters are comparing her to Nicki Minaj but I see no similarities. I dig her-she’s in her own lane. She’s clearly not trying to be gangsta and is not a wanna be rapper by any means. Guys are liking her full figure on the bottom plus she can twerk . Her personality is real- down to earth but straight forward. Her rapper voice has a southern ring, but surprisingly you don’t hear her Australian accent at all except for when she speaks. She adds pop music to her sound butis strictly about being a rapper. Iggy Azalea had a plan to be a rapper and moved to the US in 2006. She could have just modeled and became a pop star, but she had a goal. I wouldn’t call her the greatest emcee of all time, but she has proved to be legit. Within time I can see her being a big hit!
Center Stage Atlanta
She is currently signed to Island Def Jam with an album ready to drop April 22,2014. Lets check out her bio and tracks I found dope.
One of my favorite female emcees (barely any of today) Remy Ma is coming home in July from prison. She has over 20 books of songs and is ready to come back to music.
After being sentenced in 2008 for shooting an ex friend in the gut over money, Remy is coming home. She was and will continue to be the dopest female rapper of today. When Lil Kim went to jail and came back, she unfortunately fell off the scene. I don’t think Remy will fall off. Her toughest competition is Nick Minaj and Nicki stole Remy and Lil Kim’s style. Nicki took the opportunity when 2 dope females got locked up, she ran off with the fame. Not saying Nicki isn’t talented (she can free style good, that’s about it) but Remi is next level real dopeness in the rap game. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she will come correct and help bring real hip hop back in the right direction. Who will she work with? Well- who knows, the only thing said was that she made up with Fat Joe. We haven’t heard Fats Joe’s name in a while but whose to say he can’t bring Remy back?!
Here’s Remi’s statement on her making up with Fat Joe: (according to Source magazine)
“I just recently spoke to him and we had a wonderful conversation, He said, ‘I still think you’re the dopest female rapper ever.’ I’m like, ‘Really?!’ When you put egos and pride aside, and be the real people that you are it works out… I told him that when I do go home I’m going to make it my business that we talk more.”
She also is a straight up chick no gimmicks. Here's what she said about her career.
“I want people to know that Rem is still Rem. There’s a history of artists that go to jail and when they get home, they‘re not all that or even do anything. I’m not falling into that category. In my opinion, the only one that did some significant time then came home and went stupid was ‘Pac. That’s what I want to do. I want to come home and make an impact. I feel like my time was cut short and I didn’t get to blossom where I wanted to be in my career.”
Only time will tell what Remy’s working, but lets not forget what she gave us back in the day.
About four years ago. I met this guy, he came up to me and gave me a hug. He wasn't signed yet, but he was being recognized. I wasn't ranting and raving and throwing myself at him, I was there for the music. (RealRecognizeReall) He opened up the show and I bopped my head to his music because the lyrical content and beats were amazing. I thought this guy's music was pretty good. I was there to see N.E.R.D and was not following this dudes music at all.
I'm talking about Jay Electronica. What makes him dope is his lyrical content. Lyrical content over the past few years has taken a back seat to dope beats. Hip Hop heads and music lovers need an equal balance of strong lyrics and beats. For those who don't know about Jay Electronica here is some info:
Underground artists need to stop being lazy by- shortening their bars, using social media to build fans. Go out in public and perform. Don't get caught up with social media. People still need to see you and know what you're about. Explore all options and don't rule out old ways of hustling. Do shows, keep writing, build a fan base, send your music out to labels and radio stations, and never stop promoting your music. One day you could be a Jay Electronica and work with high profile artists. Now I can say I met a high profile artist. It feels good.
New music and in honor of Jay Electronica---> Step your lyrical content up!
