We Miss You, Whitney!

When it's all said in done Whitney Houston was the best singer and there will never be anyone who will be better. Although Jennifer Hudson comes close it's not the same! I respect her daughter for speaking in front of everyone she seems so humble. Everyone was waiting for Whitney"s big comeback and now it's up to Bobbi Kristina to keep her mothers memory alive and positive. R.I .P Whitney Houston!

Keepin it REAL!

This is so sweet, I teard up no lie! This just shows that celebrities are real people and go through real emotions. I admire lil Willow's honesty, tears, and genuine feelings. She is so bright and mature for her age. To be able to express her true feelings is a remarkable reflection on Will, Jada, and her Grandmother! I am so thankful for this breakthrough moment of woman hood.

HAPPY MOMMAS DAY!

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL!

THE AWAKENING

The Awakening
My earliest thought of hip hop was the best moments of my life. It was in the late 1980’s thru the early 90’s with my sisters and little brother. It’s when MTV actually showed music videos. It’s when Ed Lover and Doc Dre had “Yo MTV raps” on lock along with Fab 5 Freddy. It’s when I wrote lyrics to all the hip hop songs I loved on the radio and memorized them. It’s when I would barely watch television and would just listen to the radio. It’s also a time when people could go out dance their ass off in a public place without worrying about getting in a fight or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In the late 1980’s early 90’s I watched my sisters listen to old school rap. It filled them with joy and energy. It stood out in my mind because I don’t feel the love for hip hop music as much today like it was back then. I remember when the worst word in a rhyme was the “N” word. I don’t consider my-self old school at all but I respect those that paved the way to my passion for radio and music.

Off the top of my head I remember listening to Naughty by Nature, New Edition, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, and my favorite Bell Biv Devoe. But what made the person I am today has to be dancing. I stood in front of the television and repeated all the latest dance moves that I saw in music videos. I even watched “Club MTV” with Jodi Whatley- “wubba, wubba –goodbye”. I dreamed of being a fly girl on “In Living Color”. Almost all the dance shows I had to watch, The Grind, Dance Party USA and of course Soul Train. Movement and music made me so happy and I was good at it! It had a lot to do with Jamaican culture since we love music, food and dancing.

On the weekends at home with my sisters, we turned off the radio and had dance contests. I loved to sing so I lip sang off the radio and rapped too. I dreamed big I wanted to be famous like Queen Latifah or Moni Love or any famous strong black woman. My sister (who is no longer with us R.I.P) named Esie just got a radio for Christmas. It was the newest kind of boom box that was small and had dual cassette decks. We all loved this radio because we recorded off the radio and also dubbed albums. Yes, this was before CD’s became popular. I wasn’t rich but my family didn’t live in the projects either. But I grew up knowing the value of money. When I couldn’t buy tapes, I recorded music off the radio like I saw my sisters do. One day we jammed out to our own freestyle.

We sat in my sister’s room and we recorded over one of my old Teddy Ruxpin story tapes. You may remember when you place pieces of tape over the holes on the top of a cassette, you could record over, and well maybe you may have been too young or not even born yet. Anyhow, this day was the best day of my life. My oldest sister Carla heard us rhyming in a circle and joined in. She was the brain-iac of the family and very conservative. Well not really but that how I thought she was. We went around making up our own lyrics or any rhyme from a rap song with me and my lil brother beat boxing. To my surprise my oldest sister joined in with this

“My name is Carla D and I can rhyme I am so fresh, I am so fly!”

We all kept going because we were recording but she continued on rhyming a few more lines. When we ended we all clapped and laughed because she surprised us all. Right then and there I realized that hip hop music brings the best out of people. You don’t have to be from the hardcore slums of New York City to rhyme or be respected. I look at artists from the past like, De la Soul, Moni Love, Cool and the Gang as some of the artist that did not sell drugs or violence to make their records sell.

I remember my sister Carla telling me

“Rap used to be about having fun and dancing while showing your skills. It was about respect and not competing to sell the most records.”

“Your generation changed it to gangsta rap”

Even though I was about 9 or 10 years old, I still listened to what my sister said about my generation. She was talking mostly about me listening to Naughty by Nature and Ice Cube. I couldn’t help it, I liked thug music. But I understood what she was talking about when it came to lyrical content it had changed and it always will.

Such a great mix ASAP and Swizz.Yes, swizz taking the arts out of school is devastating. Obama/Will Smith smart MEN

LOS ANGELES (AP)

I still find this man to be funny, talented and intelligent. I like the fact that he made such a positive statement in support on Obama's tax increase for top money earners. Phew finally this country makes an amazing change. I love Obama and Will Smith....read on!

One of Hollywood's biggest and best-paid stars is supporting President Barack Obama's call for higher taxes on the country's top earners.
Will Smith said while promoting "Men In Black III" last week that he supports the move.
"I'm very supportive of that idea," Smith told The Associated Press in an interview. "America has been fantastic to me. I have no problem paying whatever I need to pay to keep my country growing."
Obama has proposed that everyone earning $1 million a year or more should pay at least 30 percent of their income in taxes. One research group said the change would affect around 210,000 taxpayers.
Vanity Fair has reported that Smith was paid an estimated $20 million for "Men In Black III."

Eminem Speaks on Adam Yauch’s Passing

hiphopnmore

If you have followed Eminem’ career, you would know that he has always cited the Beastie Boys as one of his influences while coming up in the rap game. In a statement to MTV, Marshall reacted to Adam Yauch’s death in the following words:

“Adam Yauch brought a lot of positivity into the world and I think it’s obvious to anyone how big of an influence the Beastie Boys were on me and so many others. They are trailblazers and pioneers and Adam will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, Mike D., and Ad-Rock.”

Nas, who worked with the band on a track called ‘Too Many Rappers’ off their last album Hot Sauce Committee Part Two says:

“One of my greatest moments in music was when I worked with the Beastie Boys. … Now today I’m hearing our brother is gone. I prayed this would not happen. MCA was so cool, man. We had great talks about what it was like for them in the beginning, getting into the rap game. I’ll never forget that experience for the rest of my life. MCA is a true legend who influenced me. God bless his soul and his loved ones.”

R.I.P to MCA "Beastie Boy" Member

I am finally writing about Adam Yaucht former member of the Beastie Boys. Those who love Hip Hop should take a moment to get familiar with how iconic the Beastie Boys were. I hate how things can become racial but the Boy's paved the way for Caucasian emcees. So it baffles me how people can still judge Caucasian rappers. To all my youth there were white emcees before Eminem look it up! But most importantly I respect artists and their hard work.

Below I want you to see a clip of L.L. Cool J speaking about MCA's death look how he is gets so emotional. Most importantly listen to what he said about hip hop, race, and culture. Leave comments!

Creepy Crawly FYI

CREEPY: FYI

Those that know me know I like scary, creepy action packed, suspense movies, but this gave me a ton of chills. With the help of Rodale and Yahoo here is some creepy crawly information.  Prepare to be grossed out.

Thrips

At anywhere from 1/25 to 1/8 of an inch long, these tiny little winged parasites are legally allowed in apple butter, canned or frozen asparagus, frozen broccoli, and frozen Brussels sprouts.

 Aphids

Those same little green or black bugs that can destroy a bouquet of flowers can infiltrate your frozen veggies, particularly spinach, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts.

Mites

These tiny white bugs are common in wheat and other grains that have been stored for a while, but expect to eat a few with your frozen vegetables.Storage and grain mites can cause allergic reactions as the dust mites common in homes.

Maggots

If you’ve ever eaten canned food, you’ve probably also eaten a maggot. These disgusting little critters abound in things like canned mushrooms, canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and pizza sauces, as well as fresh or frozen Maraschino cherries. Mushrooms are by far the worst: 20 maggots are allowed for every 100 grams of drained mushrooms, compared with between 1 and 5 for every 500 grams of tomato products.

Fruit Flies

Buy a piece of fruit covered in fruit flies, and you can wash them off. Buy a can of citrus juice, and you’ll be chopping on five fruit flies with every 8-ounce cup of juice. Grab an 8-ounce handful of raisins and you could be eating as many as 35 fruit-fly eggs.

Not sure how to pick the best produce? No problem. Master the Produce Aisle and you'll know what, when, and where to buy all year-round.

Corn Ear Worms

Corn is  prone to insect infestations, but in most cases, it’s easy to avoid eating the ear worms that burrow into corncobs and eat the silk.  However, canned sweet corn will come with some extra crunch from all the larvae, skins, and skin fragments allowed by the FDA.

Cowpea curculio

Love black-eyed peas? Buy them dried and cook them yourself, rather than buying them frozen or canned. A can of black-eyed peas, cow peas, or field peas may contain an average of five or more cowpea curculio larvae, which will grow into dark brown, beetle-like weevils that infest all manner of peas and beans.

Caterpillars

Fuzzy, ugly caterpillars are supposed to turn into beautiful butterflies for people to marvel at—not eat in a mouthful of frozen spinach. But along with the 50 or so aphids, mites, and thrips allowed in 100 grams of spinach, you may also find yourself munching on caterpillar larvae and larval fragments.
